Cryotherapy – also known as ‘cold surgery’ – is a highly effective, safe procedure that is used to freeze and destroy benign skin lesions. It uses liquefied nitrous oxide to destroy tissue, by freezing the inter-cellular fluid – which forms ice shards and crystals that rupture the cell membrane, destroying the cell.

How safe is cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is a relatively low-risk procedure. Lesions around the face and eyes can easily be treated safely – with minimal discomfort and few side effects. Because of its special applicator tips, the Cryopen will only treat your lesion – not the healthy surrounding tissue.
How long are Cryopen treatments?
The penetration rate of freezing with the Cryopen is approximately 1mm per 5 seconds, with a maximum of 3-6mm depending on the applicator. Upon clinical evaluation, your operator will choose an application time between 1 and 30 seconds.
Do I need a follow up Cryotherapy session?
A follow up visit is recommended 2-4 weeks after your appointment.
